About

What Is Edgeware (EDG)?

Edgeware (EDG) is a smart contract blockchain that operates on a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism. According to the official document, the Edgeware platform is a community-driven network and proposal system developed to support DAO (decentralized organization). This framework, in turn, is meant to allow the platform to provide users with multiple operational facilities, including:

  • Decentralized application (DApps) development

  • Smart contracts for developers using Ethereum for their projects

  • Edgeware collectives (an on-chain framework) to explore and expand new ideas backed by the treasury of Edgeware These facilities help to ensure better user engagement on the platform while encouraging participants to actively use the platform's tools to develop their projects.

According to the website, the platform has sustainable funding, a growing organizational structure, and open culture. These features accommodate the next generation of blockchain-enabled ideas, tools, and services that can help users to develop projects on the platform in a more simplified manner. Further, to support this overall operational framework on the platform, Edgeware launched its cryptocurrency, the EDG token.

EDG is the native token of the Edgeware platform and serves many different utilities on the platform. The functions of the token include:

  • The tokens are used for the purpose of staking

  • EDG provides token holders with the voting right that allows them to participate in governance, elections, proposal making

  • The EDG token is also used to pay transaction fees for changes in smart contracts and carry out different operations on the platform.  These utilities of the token help to ensure a sound operational structure on the platform.

The Edgeware platform started its journey in 2018 and released its whitepaper in September 2019. The platform launched its decentralized network in February 2020. According to the website, the token of the platform has a total supply of 5 billion EDG.
