Dog Implanted with Neuralink Achieves Breakthrough in Human-Animal Communication — Speaks Using "Bark Morse Code" May 2, 2025 – In a groundbreaking development at the intersection of neuroscience and animal behavior, a three-year-old Xoloitzcuintli pug mix named Gord has become the first canine to communicate with humans using a novel form of "bark Morse code" after being implanted with Neuralink, the brain-computer interface developed by Elon Musk’s neurotechnology company. The achievement, announced by Neuralink researchers on Wednesday, marks a significant milestone in understanding animal cognition and could reshape how humans interact with other species. Gord, a rescue dog from Austin, Texas, underwent the Neuralink implantation procedure in late 2024 as part of an experimental trial to explore the technology’s potential beyond human applications. The Neuralink device, a coin-sized implant embedded in the skull, interfaces directly with the brain to record and stimulate neural activity. In humans, the technology aims to treat neurological disorders and enable direct brain-computer interaction. For Gord, it has unlocked an unprecedented ability: perfect comprehension of English and the capacity to respond in a structured, intentional manner. According to Dr. Emily Chen, lead neuroscientist on the Neuralink Canine Project, Gord’s implant allows him to process human speech by mapping auditory inputs to neural patterns associated with language comprehension. “The implant essentially bypasses the limitations of canine vocal anatomy,” Chen explained. “Gord understands English as well as any native speaker, but he can’t vocalize words. Instead, he’s developed a system of barks—short and long—to mimic Morse code, enabling him to ‘speak’ back to us.
