Onchain Summer 🔆 is Here

At Coinbase, we’re working hard to enable an onchain economy that increases economic freedom around the world. Making it easy and fun to participate in the onchain economy is just one way we are making progress towards this goal.

Onchain Summer is back

Last August, we came together to celebrate the launch of Base, the Ethereum L2 incubated by Coinbase. This summer, we’re back with a multi-month celebration of onchain music, gaming, art, and more. Starting today and running through the end of August, we’ll be bringing you fun, meaningful things to do onchain, everyday.

And this summer, we’re also inviting anyone to participate and create innovative onchain experiences. We invite everyone to join us this summer to help build a more creative internet and connect with the onchain community.

Onchain Summer is for everyone

Earlier in May, we announced that Onchain Summer is coming back, and we were blown away by the community remixes of the Onchain Summer billboard image. We’re excited by the creativity to be unleashed from Onchain Summer, and how the onchain economy enables this with more freedom, more control, and a closer relationship between creators and their supporters.

Today, we’re opening up the Onchain Summer brand to anyone to remix. Mint this commemorative NFT and access the original files to make your own creations. 100% of proceeds from the mint go directly to the original creators: Clément Cases, designer of the font Britney, and Bendito Mockup, creators of the Billboard mockup.

Calling all builders and creators

Onchain Summer is by and for all of us. It’s a decentralized movement for the entire ecosystem to usher in the next wave of onchain users. And we want to see what you’ve built, and help you bring it to the world. 

• Share your project to reach more people: Building something new for Onchain Summer? We want to hear from you! Share your project with Base, Coinbase and the entire onchain community by submitting it to the Onchain Registry here. 

• Buildathon and Grants: We’re inviting builders around the world to join the Onchain Summer Buildathon. Base and our partners are also offering over 600 ETH¹ ($2 million) in prizes, grants, and gas credits to eligible participants. Optimism is also committing 600K OP for builders and creators working on impact projects across the Superchain.

• Create Onchain Summer merch: We’ll be introducing an onchain merch store this summer (powered by Slice) featuring merch created by the community. If you’re interested in selling your own existing merch in the store or you’d like to design something new, let us know here.
