Coinbase is committed to the security of its customers, and will be rolling out device verification this week to help our customers protect their accounts. With this launch, your account can only be accessed from devices you’ve authorized and you can add a new device at any time.

Additionally, here are some best practices to stay safe:

Check for Coinbase.com

When visiting Coinbase from a link, make sure you’re not being directed to a fraudulent site by checking the URL in your browser. Links to fraudulent sites will commonly be found in spoofed emails. Always be aware of what site you’re on whenever you’re entering your password on the web. The above image is an example of the correct Coinbase.com URL.

Report Spoofs to Us

Report phishing sites to us at spoof@coinbase.com and we’ll do our best to have them blocked in web browsers that support blacklists like Chrome and Firefox, and Internet Explorer.

Two Factor

Enable 2-factor wherever possible, including your Coinbase account and email account. This will add an extra layer of security and prevent logins where your password alone becomes known.

Unique Passwords

Make sure you’re using unique passwords on the web, to ensure your other accounts are secure if one of them becomes compromised. If this is difficult, you can consider using a product like LastPass or 1Password. Your registration email is especially important to secure, as it’s used to recover your account and receive verification messages.

Malware

Beyond phishing, attacks can also come in the form of software or browser extensions. Be very cautious when installing software and make sure you trust the author. Run an anti-virus product as extra help to detect an infection of your computer. Also, always make sure you’ve downloaded the latest updates to your web browser and operating system.
