According to its whitepaper, Scala links IPFS and distribute technologies to build a globally scalable ecosystem. History of Scala (XLA)
Scala was initiated as Stellite back in January 2018. However, Stellite had to change its name in 2019 due to a lawsuit as this name was copyrighted by Kennametal. In a hurry, Stellite’s name was changed to Torque. Since the team was not happy with the name, they finally changed it to Scala. This rebranding was just a name change, and was not a chain swap.
