Back to All Jobs

Coinbase has built the world's leading compliant cryptocurrency platform serving over 73 million accounts in more than 100 countries. With multiple successful products, and our vocal advocacy for blockchain technology, we have played a major part in mainstream awareness and adoption of cryptocurrency. We are proud to offer an entire suite of products that are helping build the cryptoeconomy and increase economic freedom around the world.

There are a few things we look for across all hires we make at Coinbase, regardless of role or team. First, we look for signals that a candidate will thrive in a culture like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, disrupt ourselves, and expect sustained high performance because we play as a championship team. Second, we expect all employees to commit to our mission-focused approach to our work. Finally, we seek people with the desire and capacity to build and share expertise in the frontier technologies of crypto and blockchain, in whatever way is most relevant to their role.

We are growing our Client Platform Engineering team to scale and secure our enterprise environment. As a Client Platform Engineer, you will help build and maintain the tooling to secure and manage our endpoint fleet across multiple OS platforms (macOS, Chrome OS, Windows) and across various hardware types (laptops, desktop, mobile)

The successful candidate brings an engineering mindset to collaborating and delivering technical solutions with a focus on providing a transparent user experience.

Your day-to-day work will include managing the existing fleet (patching), collaborating and developing on larger strategic projects, and providing input into our longer-term roadmap and planning activities.  With a growth mindset, you are driven to solve complex problems at the intersection of business, technology, people, and process; you dive right in to identify the near-term solutions that deliver the highest impact work.

We are a fast-growing team with ambitious goals. We have a passion for automation, agile, and DevOps culture.  If you are excited about building the next generation of fleet management tooling and automation, we want to hear from you!

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Be responsible and accountable for the successful delivery of engineering projects that improve the security, reliability, compliance, and automation of our fleet operations
  • Collaborate with our strategic internal customers (Security, IT Operations and others) to develop tooling strategies,  supporting processes,  technology architectures,  and troubleshoot issues with the tooling we provide them.
  • Develop and refine operational metrics, and improve the systems used to track the health of our fleet
  • Seize opportunities across the System Engineering team to eliminate manual work through tooling, integrations and automation, including operational, security, and compliance configuration of systems
  • Deliver high-quality design documentation and code; drive improvements by reviewing, approving and providing feedback on submissions by your peers
  • Assist and mentor teammates by sharing knowledge, mentoring, and managing escalations as it relates to System Engineering
  • Keep abreast of industry trends in the client platform community

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Demonstrated success with similar teams in a hyper growth environment
  • Strong engineering experience delivering solutions that provide a frictionless end user experience
  • Experience managing endpoints using code-based configuration management tools (Chef, Puppet, Munki, Autopkg) at scale
  • Experience managing fleet operations at scale
  • Experience with security tooling such as device encryption, anti-virus tooling, digital certificates, patching, and application allow/deny listing
  • Experience supporting complex integrations across systems
  • Experience partnering closely with Security and Compliance teams
  • Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) tools
  • Proficiency in at least one software development language
  • Proficiency with scripting in any of the following or similar languages (PowerShell, Ruby, Python, Bash, Go)
  • Strong communication skills - deliver clear and concise communication
  • Demonstrate open and collaborative approaches to facilitating technical recommendations that drive a pragmatic balance for scale/process/execution/user experience

Nice to haves:

  • Proficiency managing cloud infrastructure using an industry-standard provider (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience writing infrastructure as code (Terraform) using declarative configuration files
  • Experience building internal tooling (CI/CD, Git/Workflows, Buildkite)
  • Contribute to open-source projects
