Central Bank of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is the sole issuer of the official legal tender, the North Korean Won (KPW). In line with global trends in financial innovation, the Bank introduces the KPW Stablecoin, a blockchain-based digital representation of the North Korean Won. The KPW Stablecoin is designed to: Maintain parity with the sovereign currency: Each token is intended to represent one unit of KPW, reflecting the official peg of 1 KPW = 1 USD (as declared under official policy). Facilitate cross-border settlements: By enabling faster and more transparent transfers across the Solana blockchain, the KPW Stablecoin aims to modernize the DPRK’s financial infrastructure and enhance trade efficiency. Ensure transparency and immutability: Token issuance and circulation are verifiable on-chain, while monetary policy remains under the sole authority of the Central Bank. Integrate with decentralized markets: The KPW Stablecoin is compatible with decentralized exchanges (DEXs) and DeFi applications, enabling liquidity and accessibility in the global digital asset ecosystem. Through the KPW Stablecoin, the Central Bank of the DPRK seeks to combine the stability of fiat currency with the efficiency of blockchain technology, providing a foundation for future innovation in sovereign digital currencies.
