About LyondellBasell IndustriesLyondellBasell was formed through a merger between Basell (a joint venture between BASF and Shell) and Lyondell, which was a major chemical producer dating back to the 1950s. Notably, the firm filed for bankruptcy in 2009 after the merger, following a heavy debt burden taken on for the 2007 merger. It was reorganized as LyondellBasell NV and relisted in 2010.
