Illuvium is an open-world fantasy battle game built on the Ethereum blockchain. It combines elements of an exploration game with player versus player (PVP) battles. The game world is inhabited by creatures known as Illuvials, which players can capture and add to their collection. These Illuvials can then be used in battles against other players. Illuvium has been in development since 2020 by a global team of over 40 individuals. The ILV token, the main token of the Illuvium ecosystem, is utilized to compensate players for their in-game achievements and for participating in the game's governance via the Illuvium decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).

Illuvium operates more like a full-fledged video game than a typical blockchain-based game. Each Illuvial is represented by a unique non-fungible token (NFT) and can be traded within the Illuvium ecosystem and the gas-free IlluviDEX.

The ILV token has several applications within the Illuvium ecosystem. It is utilized to compensate players for their in-game achievements, entitles players to their share of the Illuvium Vault, and is used for participating in the governance of the game via the Illuvium DAO. The game also features a built-in decentralized exchange (DEX) platform, the IlluviDEX, which facilitates the exchange of Illuvium assets, including Illuvial NFTs.
