The Golem Project was introduced by Golem Factory in 2016 and officially launched on the mainnet in 2018. The concept of a decentralized computation network was first presented at DevCon 0 in November 2014 as a solution for resource-intensive projects. Following a successful crowdfunding event in 2016, the team launched the initial version of Golem but later recognized the need for a more flexible architecture. This realization led to a complete protocol overhaul in 2019, resulting in a new architecture and codebase developed throughout 2020.
