How to sell your Reddit avatar on OpenSea

Your brand new Reddit avatar is a digital collectible (also known as "NFT"), which means it can be traded in any open marketplace that supports Polygon (the blockchain network that Reddit chose for their avatars). The most popular Polygon marketplace for NFTs is OpenSea, but you need a compatible crypto wallet like Coinbase Wallet to list and sell your NFTs. This guide will walk you through the steps you can take to sell your Reddit avatar on OpenSea, with the help of Coinbase Wallet.

Setting up your Wallet

If you're new to crypto, you can easily set up a new wallet by downloading Coinbase Wallet on iOS, Android, or as a Chrome extension.

If you already have a Coinbase Wallet account, you can skip ahead to the section "Existing Coinbase Wallet user."

How to set up your Coinbase Wallet

1. Download and install Coinbase Wallet on iOS, Android, or as a Chrome extension.

2. Now we'll need to import your Reddit Vault, where your avatar is stored:

   1. Open the Reddit app, and tap on your avatar on the top right corner of the screen.

   2. Tap on "Vault" in the account menu.

   3. Tap on the three dots ("...") next to the word "Vault"

   4. Go to "Recovery phrase", and then "Copy to Clipboard"

      1. Don't share your recovery phrase with anyone! If someone has your recovery phrase, they might be able to move your digital collectibles or cryptocurrencies.

3. Now, open your Coinbase Wallet app, and select "I already have a wallet" in the welcome screen.

4. Tap on "Enter recovery phrase".

5. Paste your recovery phrase from the Reddit Vault, and press "Continue".

6. In the next screen, we recommend that you back up your recovery phrase to iCloud or Google Drive, so you can restore it later if you lose your phone or get a new one. 

That's it! You should now be able to see your Reddit avatar(s) in the NFT tab within Coinbase Wallet. If you'd like to list your avatar for sale on OpenSea, so that other people can buy it, you can follow the steps in the next section.  

Existing Coinbase Wallet user

If you already have an existing Coinbase Wallet account, the easiest way to list and sell your Reddit avatar is by transferring it to your wallet.

1. Open Coinbase Wallet and copy your Ethereum address by tapping the "Receive" button.

2. Open the Reddit app, and tap on your avatar on the top right corner of the screen.

3. Select "Vault" from the menu.

4. You should see your avatar(s) under "Your Collectible Avatars". Select the avatar you want to sell.

5. Tap "Transfer" on the following screen.

6. Paste your Coinbase Wallet address into the "Recipient" field and hit "Transfer".

The transfer may take a few minutes to complete, once it does you'll be able to see your avatar in the NFT tab of Coinbase Wallet. If you'd like to list your avatar on OpenSea, so that other people can buy it, you can follow the steps in the next section.

Listing your avatar for sale

OpenSea is the leading marketplace for NFTs in the Polygon blockchain. Once you see your Reddit avatar in Coinbase Wallet, you can follow the steps below to list it for sale.

1. Before you can sell your avatar, you need to fund your wallet with some "MATIC", which is the native token of the Polygon network. 

   1. You can follow these instructions to buy MATIC on Coinbase, and then transfer it to your Coinbase Wallet.

   2. You can find your Coinbase Wallet address by tapping the "Receive" button on the top of the screen.

   3. Make sure you purchase and transfer MATIC on the Polygon network (as opposed to Ethereum), so you can pay for transactions on the Polygon network.

2. Once you see some MATIC on your Coinbase Wallet app, tap on "Browser" on the bottom toolbar.

3. On the address bar, type OpenSea's website address: https://opensea.io.

4. Once the website loads, open the top right menu, and select "Account", and then "Profile".

   1. Your avatar should show up on your profile, under "Collected".

   2. If you don't see it there, scroll to the left on the profile menu until you see "More", then select "Hidden". Your avatar should show up there.

5. Tap on your avatar, and then hit the "Sell" button on the bottom.

6. You can now pick a listing price (or start an auction) for your avatar.

7. Once you complete all the listing information and press "Complete listing", you'll see a confirmation screen. This gives OpenSea authorization to move your avatar if someone buys it. 

Your avatar is now listed on OpenSea! You can add an email to your OpenSea account to get notified when someone buys it. You can also cancel your listing at any time from your OpenSea profile.
