What Is SuperRare (RARE)?
SuperRare (RARE) is a marketplace to trade and collect single-edition digital artworks. All the artwork is created by the artists in the network and is tokenized as a crypto-collectible digital item. Also, the network is a peer-to-peer marketplace for NFTs (ERC721 NFTs) built on the Ethereum network. According to the whitepaper, every artwork on this platform is secured by cryptography and tracked on the blockchain.
The objective behind creating a social network for crypto art is that digital collectibles can have a transparent record of ownership. They're ideal for a social environment. The social layer makes it easier to assess value and context around items in the marketplace. The network seeks to solve problems such as a single team doing the curation and gatekeeping, a lack of support to the artists, and the fragmented ecosystem of NFTs.
Further, SuperRare claims to solve the problem by introducing SuperRare Spaces, which can independently run storefronts on the network to curate art and artists, run auctions, promote sales, and collect commissions.
SuperRare arose from its 1.0 version, where the core team handpicked the artists and approved them to mint their works on a shared smart contract as SuperRare NFTs. Moving ahead, SuperRare 2.0 modified that by introducing web-scale curation, running storefronts on their platform for the artists to promote, mint, and sell their works directly to collectors. Additionally, SuperRare 2.0 came up as a DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) that governs and allocates funds from the community treasury and votes on key platform parameters and proposed network improvements.
