The Future of Investing is Open and Onchain

When we announced the launch of Base 1.5 years ago, we also announced the Base Ecosystem Fund — a pool of capital for early-stage projects building on Base, with hands-on support from the team. Our goal with this fund was simple: support Base builders that are helping bring the world onchain. Since then, we’ve invested in 40+ incredible teams building on Base.

But we’ve seen two key challenges emerge:

1. Builders need more resources to scale their impact.

2. The Base community wants more ways to support and invest in the builders they believe in.

In order to strengthen the flywheel that powers the Base ecosystem, these problems need to be solved.

As part of the next evolution in our work supporting Base builders through the Base Ecosystem Fund, Coinbase Ventures is excited to become a group lead on Echo.xyz, an onchain private investment platform. Like Coinbase, Echo believes in democratizing access to early-stage investing – so people and actual users can support the next great startups.

Launching the Base Ecosystem Group strengthens the foundation of the Base ecosystem in three key ways:

1. More funding for builders: Startups will get access to a wider pool of capital and expertise, increasing their chances of success.

2. More access for the Base community: Community members can request access to the Base Ecosystem Group to democratize access to the startups they believe in.

3. Spinning the flywheel faster: The more capital that flows through onchain rails, the closer we get to a truly open financial system.
