Staking Action Dismissals

Users in four states have missed out on an estimated $90M+ in less than two years

REMINDER: ZERO USERS HAVE EVER LOST ASSETS STAKING THROUGH COINBASE'S SERVICES.

Since June 6, 2023, California, Maryland, New Jersey, and Wisconsin have banned crypto holders like you from staking through Coinbase. Millions of users across nearly every other state use Coinbase’s staking services to earn rewards—and no user has ever lost assets through them. Yet, CA, MD, NJ, and WI continue to fight to prevent their citizens from staking.

These misguided state-level staking bans have cost Coinbase users in those states approximately:

  • $6M in Maryland

  • $2M in Wisconsin

  • $13M in New Jersey

  • $74M (!!) in California

That’s nearly $100 million in potential rewards lost since June 2023—and counting. This is what’s at stake, and why we’re calling on these holdout states to align with the rest of the country. It's time for a clear federal framework, not a confusing patchwork of lawsuits that harm consumers.

Your right to stake with the provider of your choice should not depend on where you live. Protect your rights—email your elected officials and demand they drop this unnecessary lawsuit immediately.

Staking with Coinbase

Bring back staking in Maryland

Only CA, MD, NJ, and WI currently prohibit customers from staking their assets through Coinbase. Tell your state official to drop its lawsuit against Coinbase and allow staking.

What is staking?

Staking is a way to earn rewards by putting your crypto to work on a blockchain network. In return for helping the network run smoothly and securely, you receive more of the cryptocurrency you're staking. The rewards come from the network itself—your crypto isn't being lent out. It's a safe, simple and popular way to grow your crypto while holding.

Estimates are based on the aggregate increase in staking rewards paid to users in the states in which Coinbase has not been the subject of legal proceedings by state regulators.
