We are looking for a passionate litigator who can help lead our growing litigation team, in particular the regulatory enforcement team, prevent disputes before they arrive at our door, and manage them strategically and efficiently when they do arrive. A strong work ethic is very much preferred. 

 

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Develop and lead part of the growing Coinbase litigation team, in particular managing our regulatory enforcement team, including overseeing regulatory investigations, third-party regulatory subpoenas, and various third-party work streams
  • Provide practical, in-depth thought leadership on legal issues and risks in a risk-tolerant, but compliance-oriented environment, including the impact on the company's long-term strategy to business and legal audiences
  • Proactively solve process and other problems for the business as they plan and execute on an accelerated and aggressive global growth plan
  • Analyze and advise on complex, pre-dispute questions in financial, crypto, and tech sectors
  • Develop sustainable processes to scale the team’s operations
  • Collaborate closely with leadership across Legal team, in particular Product Legal, Commercial Legal, Corporate Legal, and Regulatory Legal

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • Substantial experience managing and successfully resolving global regulatory investigations, regulatory enforcement matters, litigation matters, and disputes  
  • Substantial experience in multiple categories of regulatory investigations and regulatory enforcements matters, including with the SEC, CTFC, State AGs, and state departments of financial regulation, and including regarding securities laws. 
  • Experience advising on legal risks in the financial, crypto, and/or tech sectors and in the context of complex and uncertain regulatory regimes
  • Experience leading and growing a legal team, including managing other senior litigation attorneys with their own sub-teams
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo and preconceived notions of what is possible, especially when managing outside counsel
  • Experience partnering across an in-house legal team to develop strategic and pragmatic advice to prevent disputes
  • Experience developing processes that allow legal teams to scale alongside rapid business growth
  • Excellent judgment, analytical rigor, clear communication, and business pragmatism
  • Demonstrated exceptional legal writing and editing skills and ability to develop that experience among team members
  • Law degree

We are looking for an experienced and solutions-minded litigation attorney lawyer and leader who can help  lead Coinbase’s growing litigation team.
