Tl;dr: Coinbase is pleased to welcome political strategist David Plouffe to its Global Advisory Council. With decades of working at the intersection of government, public policy and technology, Plouffe brings a unique perspective that will help Coinbase advance crypto innovation and advocate for the future of finance.
Today, Coinbase is announcing that David Plouffe, a veteran political strategist, executive, and innovation advocate, is joining its Global Advisory Council (GAC). Plouffe is widely recognized as the architect behind President Barack Obama’s historic 2008 and 2012 campaigns for the presidency and as a former White House Senior Advisor. In these roles, he pioneered a new model for grassroots political engagement – harnessing data, digital tools, and community organizing to empower millions of first-time voters across the country. He has spent his career advancing ideas that shape how people live, work, and connect. After leaving government, he brought that same strategic rigor to the private sector. At Uber, Plouffe led global policy and strategy during a period of rapid international expansion and regulatory transformation. He later built and led the policy and advocacy team at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. “Crypto speaks directly to how people want to live their financial lives – faster and cheaper, with fewer gatekeepers,” said Plouffe. “It reflects the desires of today’s customers and voters alike. Policymakers who understand that shift will be positioned to lead; those who ignore it risk being left behind.” Plouffe’s addition comes at a moment of historic momentum for the crypto industry and reflects Coinbase’s continued commitment to bringing trusted, forward-thinking voices into the conversation as it works to bring one billion people onchain and advance economic freedom around the world. “David joining GAC comes on the heels of one of the biggest legislative moments for crypto in U.S. history,” said Faryar Shirzad, Coinbase Chief Policy Officer. “He understands how to build broad coalitions and drive forward-looking policy. His deep experience in government, tech, and advocacy will be instrumental as we navigate this new era and continue our work to modernize the financial system.” The GAC brings together a diverse group of leaders across policy, economics, technology, and national security. Plouffe joins a growing roster that includes John Anzalone, founder of Impact Research Polling; former Defense Secretary Mark Esper; former Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy (D-FL); former Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH); former Senator Patrick Toomey (R-PA); former U.S. Homeland Security Advisor Fran Townsend; David Urban; former Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa; former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer and First Secretary of State George Osborne; former Mayor of Atlanta Keisha Lance Bottoms; former Congressman Kendrick Meek (D-FL); former Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ); former New York Fed President Bill Dudley; RNC strategist Chris LaCivita; and former Inter-American Development Bank President Luis Moreno.
